Trainer:

Mike Bricker MS, CADC-II, NCAC-2, LPC    is a consultant on “dual recovery” from substance use and mental disorders through the STEMSS Institute, and specializes in blending research-based treatment with other Wisdom Traditions. He has educated and trained Counselors in Alaska, Oregon and the Navajo Nation.  Mike is also a Behavioral Health  Clinician for  Strong Integrated Behavioral Health in Eugene OR.   Mike specializes in providing trauma-informed care to participants in treatment for methamphetamine and other drugs of abuse, and Medication-Assisted Treatment for opioid use disorders.  Mike is a seasoned trainer who presents regularly at national conferences, is a member of the NAADAC Speakers’ Bureau, and an Approved Education Provider (#176230)

Upon conclusion, workshop participants will be able to:

  • be able to identify 3 ways that ACEs interfere with neurological and psychosocial

development

  • briefly explain how these developmental deficits interfere with the treatment process
  • verbalize the importance of focusing trauma treatment on resilience;  and become familiar with the newly revised ACEs and Resulting Resilience survey
  • be able to use in their practice with handout provided.

  • fall short of effectively addressing trauma
  • briefly describe the difference between “trauma-informed” and “trauma-responsive treatment
  • flipping the script- discussion of HOPE and Kinsugi with participants
  • be able to shift the focus of treatment from trauma to resilience using principles and handouts provided

  • briefly describe the history of meditation and mindfulness interventions
  • identify and verbalize the three core elements common to all meditative practice
  • be able to participate in at least 3 experiential mindfulness techniques in workshop
  • utilize in their practice with recordings and handouts provided
